Love, Vows, and Behind-the-Scenes Magic: Elle from Konnubials by Kiki Spills on Life as a Wedding Celebrant
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is hands down the part where we become besties! I am an extrovert so connecting with people charges my batteries – it literally gives me life! I am also a sucker for romance of any kind and love a good storytelling sesh – let’s spill the love story tea!
Do you have any advice for couples choosing their celebrant?
Vibes! Vibes! Vibes! You want to choose a celebrant that matches your vibe and vision for the day. If you want fun and lighthearted – choose someone outgoing and jovial. You want to feel like you’re being married by an old friend – someone you trust to tell your story, and feel comfortable with. Hot Tip: The sooner you lock in your celebrant, the more time you have to get to know one another and the more comfortable you’ll be standing up there side by side on the big day!
The most special thing about The Ranch?
That’s easy – the fact that your nearest and dearest can stay onsite with you! All 40 of them! Another huge draw card for me is the option to have welcome drinks, the wedding AND the recovery all in one place – did someone say a “hair of the dog” by the pool?! Sign me up. You can tick catering and booze off the planning list too, because The Ranch have that covered!
Your favourite wedding moment from The Ranch?
Crashing Rach and Josh’s welcome drinks (kidding – they asked if I would like to join them after the rehearsal) where I got to meet their families and the bridal party. It felt like I was standing up at the altar with a bunch of old friends on the big day.
Disclaimer: You don’t have to invite me to your welcome drinks, but I won’t turn down a Hard Solo if you do!
What’s your favourite type of styling for The Ranch?
Bright and bold baby! I love colour and I think it really pops out there against the natural landscape. We have so many incredibly talented florists here on the South Coast, most of which are familiar with the Ranch and know what works in terms of coloured florals. In saying that, the venue does speak for itself, so if a minimalist palette is more your aesthetic, this works too!
Advice for couples to enjoy the day?
EAT BREAKFAST! By the time lunch rolls around the nerves may have kicked in and you don’t want to say I Do on an empty stomach.
“Cliche alert” – the day goes so fast – and its true! So, make sure you schedule a few disco minutes with the crew whilst you’re getting ready, where you stop and have a boogie or a breather. Opt for an earlier ceremony to get the absolute most out of the dance floor later. After you say your “I Do’s” and “hello’s” to friends and family, slip away for half an hour, just the two of you, to relish in the magical moment as newlyweds.
Trend predictions for 2025?
We are well and truly living in the Digital Age and content creation is a by product of this. When chatting about how couples are choosing to capture their day, the option of having a content creator onsite is becoming more and more popular, with some opting for this over traditional videography. Funnily enough, having a photographer shoot your day in 35mm film is becoming equally as popular too. I am a huge fan of both trends however, I think ultimately it comes down to budget.
Words of wisdom for the big day?
Stop looking at the weather! Whatever will be, will be. The fabulous thing about The Ranch is that the wet weather option still has a very outdoor feel to it.
***Not sure if this is a “wise” enough piece of information for couples haha but I’ve already covered that it goes so fast and to schedule a moment to themselves, I think that’s super important…
Lots of love,
Elle xxx
