From childhood memories told by parents to hilarious moments recalled by lifelong friends, these conversations reveal the deeper history behind the couple and the relationships that shaped them.
Wedding Chats was created to capture exactly that. Instead of a traditional guestbook, guests are invited into relaxed, natural conversations throughout the celebration, sharing memories, laughter and heartfelt reflections on camera.
What was the exact moment you thought “hang on… this could be a wedding thing”?
It actually came from interviewing people outside stadiums after Newcastle Knights games when I first moved to Newcastle.
Fans were telling these incredible stories about why the team meant so much to them, and I realised how powerful it is when someone is simply asked a good question and given the space to answer honestly.
At weddings you have all the most important people in someone’s life in one place — parents, childhood friends, old housemates, people from completely different chapters. I had this moment where I thought… if you asked those people what the couple means to them, you’d get stories and emotions that couples rarely hear.
That was the spark behind Wedding Chats.
If someone’s never heard of Wedding Chats before, how do you explain it in one sentence?
It’s a video guestbook experience where I interview your friends and family throughout the celebration, and their stories, laughter and memories become a cinematic film you’ll watch for the rest of your life.
What’s your secret for getting even the most camera-shy guests to suddenly spill their hearts?
Honestly, it’s rarely about the camera.
Most people just need a minute to relax and feel like they’re having a conversation rather than performing.
My background is in journalism and radio, so I’m used to quickly reading people and adjusting my tone to match theirs. Sometimes that means easing someone in with a funny story, other times it’s just giving them a quiet moment to think.
Once people realise they’re simply talking about someone they love, the camera tends to disappear.
Is there a type of guest who always steals the show? Mum, best mate, or the uncle after a few wines?
Parents are the ones who surprise people the most.
Couples often expect the funny stories from friends, but when a mum or dad pauses for a second and starts describing their pride or a childhood memory, the entire tone of the interview changes.
Those are usually the moments couples remember the most when they watch their film back.
What do couples usually say to you after they watch their Wedding Chats film for the first time?
They almost always say it’s a complete rollercoaster — one minute they’re laughing at a hilarious story from a best mate, the next they’re tearing up at something a parent says, and then suddenly crying with laughter again.
It ends up being this beautiful mix of emotion that really captures what the day felt like.
You’ve captured a lot of love stories. What moment still gives you goosebumps every time?
There was one moment that really stayed with me.
A mum was talking about her son and, through tears, she shared that he was born eight weeks early on the 9th of December. She said the first time she was able to properly hold him was on Christmas Day.
Watching her tell that story — standing there at his wedding — was incredibly powerful.
Moments like that remind me that weddings aren’t just about the couple, they’re about decades of memories, love and experiences that led to that day.
What advice do you give couples to get the absolute best out of their Wedding Chats experience?
Trust that the best moments will happen naturally.
Couples sometimes feel like they need to direct who I speak to or what people should say, but the magic really comes from the unscripted conversations that happen when guests are relaxed.
Also, give yourselves a moment during the evening to step back and take in the room — the people reconnecting, laughing and celebrating together. That’s the atmosphere that makes the interviews so special.
What excites you most about capturing Wedding Chats at a venue like The Jackson Ranch?
Jackson Ranch has this beautiful balance of being visually striking while still feeling warm and relaxed.
That kind of environment naturally encourages guests to slow down, enjoy the celebration and connect with each other — which is exactly the kind of atmosphere where the best conversations happen.
When people feel comfortable and present, the stories they share become even more meaningful.
What do you think makes Wedding Chats and The Jackson Ranch such a good match for couples?
Couples who choose Jackson Ranch clearly care about creating an experience for their guests, not just a beautiful setting.
Wedding Chats fits naturally into that idea because it captures the human side of the celebration — the stories, relationships and personalities that make the day unforgettable.
When you combine a venue that feels this special with the voices of the people who are there to celebrate you, you end up preserving both the atmosphere and the emotion of the day.
